Righteousness Which is By Faith
We must believe that what the Scripture says about us is absolutely true as a child of God. Since God
Himself is now our very own righteousness, and we are the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. On the
basis of this we are partakers of the divine nature of God.
2 Peter 1:4 By means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape [by flight] from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.
|
The Scripture also tells us that there is no condemnation for those who live IN Christ Jesus, and do not
walk after the desires of the flesh. There is no condemnation as we walk in the light as He Himself is in
the light.
John 3:18-21 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

A man cannot be in Christ and be governed by the old nature. He is either in the family of God or in the
family of Satan. I John 3:10 declares, "By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious:
anyone who does not practice righteousness not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother."
There can be no real progress or maturity of faith, no strong victorious Christian life with a mixed
conception. We are either new creatures in Christ or we are not. We have passed out of death into life, or
we have not. When Apostle says, "Sin shall not lord it over you", he means exactly what he says.
We as the Church of the Living God, must understand and know what we are IN CHRIST, and how our
Heavenly Father views us in light of living IN HIS SON, JESUS, and what He considers us to be.
Romans 3:21-23 declares,21 But now the righteousness of God has been revealed independently and
altogether apart from the Law, although actually it is attested by the Law and the Prophets, 23 Namely,
the righteousness of God which comes by believing with personal trust and confident reliance on Jesus
Christ (the Messiah). [And it is meant] for all who believe. For there is no distinction, 23 Since all have
sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.
Notice that this Scripture says, "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested". When
Jesus came, and died upon the Cross, and was buried and resurrected, He became our righteousness.
Righteousness was made manifest in the Person of Jesus Christ.
Many Christians mistakenly and ignorantly believe, that if they live a moral life, do good things for people,
keep the Ten Commandments, are faithful to their spouse, and go to church every week, that they will go
to heaven. But God Word tells us differently. The Scriptures tell us that we must have a righteousness
that equals God's righteousness. Many people when told this, respond by saying, "but that is impossible,
because there is only One man who had such righteousness, and that was Jesus Christ". This is very
true. But none of us in our own selves have ever kept the Law or commandments perfectly, outwardly or
inwardly, but we need a righteousness that equals God's in order to be acceptable before Him. Hallelujah!
And this is exactly what is said in verses 21-22, of Romans 3: declares, But now the righteousness of God
has been revealed independently and altogether apart from the Law, although actually it is attested by the
Law and the Prophets, Namely, the righteousness of God which comes by believing with personal trust
and confident reliance on Jesus Christ (the Messiah). [And it is meant] for all who believe....". The kind of
righteousness that God offers you and me is a righteousness that is "through faith in Jesus Christ", and it
is unto all and upon all who believe. There are two kinds of righteousness- the righteousness of man and
the righteousness of God. The righteousness of man is a person's very best behavior and the good works
they do, but that can not make you acceptable before God. You need a righteousness that equals God's,
and He is offering it to you---the righteousness of God that is without the law.
Further clarity on our subject, is that a righteousness that is according to Law is a righteousness of doing,
earning, and achieving in order to be accepted before God. All the world religions in this time, think you
have to do, earn, and achieve in order for God to accept you. The word "Gospel" means "good news", and
the good news of the Gospel is that God is offering His very own righteousness and acceptance to all who
will believe in what His Son, Jesus Christ, provided--His death on the Cross for our sins, imputing to us the
righteousness that equals the Law. This is the righteousness of God that is apart from the Law, without
us doing, earning, and achieving; and it comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
Notice please in verse 22, of Rom 3: That it is the righteousness of God that is through faith in Jesus
Christ that is meant for all who believe. Why is God offering His righteousness to everyone" For there is
no distinction". Verse 23 says, "for all have sinned, and are falling short of the honor and glory of God"..
You have sinned, I have sinned, and we all come short of God's standard or perfection. Because of our
sin, the greatest thing we need is acceptance, right relationship and right standing with God....and God
has offered this not through the works of the Law, but through faith in Jesus Christ. The righteousness of
God does not come by your working, your trying, your earning, your being good, or your attempts to
achieve; it comes through faith, dependence, obedience, and reliance upon the Lord Jesus Christ.
How was Abraham (the Jewish forefather) saved? The Bible says he believed God! He believed the
promise God gave him. And then, righteousness was imputed to his account. The fact that Abraham was
declared righteous before God through his faith was not just for him alone. We read in Romans 3:21-22,
that a man is declared righteous through his faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible declares that because of the
payment Christ made on the Cross when He shed His blood for our sin, righteousness (right standing) will
be imputed to any person's account who simply believe upon Christ and obeys what He commands.
Rom 5:17 For if because of one man's trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much
more surely will those who receive [God's] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of
righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man
Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). God is offering you a gift of righteousness, a gift of right
standing before Him. A gift does cost something but not to the one who receives it. If you gave me a gift
and asked me to pay for it, it wouldn't be a gift, but it cost you something. God made righteousness
available to you and me as a gift, and this gift of righteousness, acquittal, and right standing before God
comes through faith in Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

Philippians 3:9 And that I may [actually] be found and known as in Him, not having any [self-achieved] righteousness that can be called my own, based on my obedience to the Law's demands (ritualistic uprightness and supposed right standing with God thus acquired), but possessing that [genuine righteousness] which comes through faith in Christ (the Anointed One), the [truly] right standing with God, which comes from God by [saving] faith.
|
Galatians 2:21 Therefore, I do not treat God's gracious gift as something of minor importance and defeat its very purpose]; I do not set aside and invalidate and frustrate and nullify the grace (unmerited favor) of God. For if justification (righteousness, acquittal from guilt) comes through [observing the ritual of] the Law, then Christ (the Messiah) died groundlessly and to no purpose and in vain. [His death was then wholly superfluous.]
